DESCRIPTION

Cradled amongst Camelthorn trees, Otjimbondona offers those seeking tranquillity, exclusivity and luxury the ideal African retreat.

The Manor House is built on a red sand dune, boasting a 360° view, within a 3000 hectare Private Nature Reserve on the fringes of the Namibian Kalahari. The main building consists of a large lounge and dining area surrounded by glass doors which open onto the outside deck to enjoy the magnificent views. The crystal clear infinity pool offers you the perfect spot to cool down on a warm summer’s day.

In the adjacent kitchen, the Chef and her team lovingly prepare mouthwatering meals for our guests, using mainly locally sourced organic farm produce. The two original rooms, dating back to 1923, are now a cosy lounge with a variety of captivating books to browse through whilst enjoying a glass (or two) of fine South African or Namibian wine, and the other room is now the reception and stocks a small selection of locally sourced curios. The east wing of the main building has a sauna and a small gym overlooking magnificent Kalahari scenery. This area can also be transformed into a conference facility or a magical venue for intimate weddings or special occasions.

A platform for meals under a blue sky, a fire place to enjoy sundowners with Gin + Tonics and snacks around an open fire and the outside “boma” invitites for grill evenings under the stars, all form part of the main area.

There are four carefully decorated Villas spaced far apart for absolute privacy. Each has its own lounge with fire place for those cold winter nights, and a beautiful bedroom with an en suite bathroom.

The lounge includes a kitchenette with a Nespresso coffee machine, a kettle and a fridge that is stocked with drinks according to the guests wishes. The Villas are surrounded by large glass doors to provide you with unrivalled views and close proximity to nature. Step outside onto a deck, ideal for sunbathing and enjoy the plunge pool to cool down on a sultry Namibian summer’s day or a relaxing Jacuzzi massage. Even when you shower or soak in your bathtub, nature is right next to you.

Each villa has a “sala” with a lounger and hanging chair, perfect to unwind with a book, have an afternoon siesta or watch the rich wildlife around you. A romantic candle light dinner can be enjoyed on your deck or on the sala.

Two villas are east facing to enjoy the magnificent sunrise and two are west facing to soak in Namibia’s spectacular sunsets. There is a waterhole on each side, which offer plenty of game viewing or bird watching from the comfort of your deck or the sala.

Each Villa is beautifully decorated according to its own theme

ACTIVITIES

Game drives in an open 4×4 vehicle

A game drive can be enjoyed in the morning, which then includes a coffee stop, or in the late afternoon with a sundowner, both overlooking the endless Kalahari landscape. You will be able to view over 35 different species of game and more than 95 species of birds. Should you wish to learn more about cattle farming in Namibia, this can gladly be arranged as well.

Nature Walks

A few walking trails give you the option to enjoy a nature walk, either on your own with a bird book and binoculars in hand, or with a guide accompanying you. There are also hides along the way that provide the ideal place for game and bird viewing.

Fat Biking

Fat bikes are off road bicycles with large tyres that enable riding on soft terrains. There are plenty of trails and roads which are ideally suited to explore the surrounding areas on a bike.

Visit to Arnhem Caves

Situated on a neighbouring farm, the Arnhem Cave – at 4,5 km long –is the largest cave system in Namibia and the 5th largest in Southern Africa. The cave is still in its natural state and home to the largest bat population in Africa. You will be able to view six recorded bat species and also discover a host of other interesting wildlife, including spiders, scorpions, beetles and musk shrews living in the cave. The cave is only a 15 minute drive from Otjimbondona, so a day visit can easily be arranged.

Stargazing

Namibia is one of the best destinations in the world for stargazing because it has some of the darkest skies measured on earth. Due to the low population density, the low air pollution, close to non-existent light pollution, and the cloudless night skies, stargazing at Otjimbondona makes for an unforgettable and rewarding experience, both for the experienced astronomer as well as the first time stargazer.

Sauna & Gym

For the more actively minded, we have a small, but modern gym with weights, a treadmill, cross trainer and Recline Forma exercise bike. There is a sauna to detox and relax, and a 20m long swimming pool to enjoy a swim or cool off in.

Wellness

Our in-house masseuse is looking forward to spoiling you with a stress relieving massage in the comfort of your Villa or on your Sala. Various massage options are available.

A Cessna 210 is parked nearby and ready to take you on a scenic flight over the farm or surrounding area.
